Failures & Alarm Lights

If there is a grinder pump failure, the liquid level in the tank which contains the pump will elevate and trigger the alarm. The alarm light, bell or buzzer located in your basement/ kitchen/utility room or other area will automatically turn on. You should first check the circuit breaker located in your main electrical circuit panel and if the 240 volt 2 pole pump breaker is tripped, reset the breaker. If the problem continues contact the City of Hagerstown Utilities Department, Wastewater Division at the phone numbers listed below. Most importantly, discontinue all water usage to prevent overflows and sewage backing up into your house.

Per the City Code of Hagerstown, § 240-36 “The owner shall indemnify and hold harmless the City from any loss or damage that may directly or indirectly be occasioned by the installation, operation and maintenance of said means of lifting the sewer.” Therefore, the City of Hagerstown Wastewater Division will not be held liable if the homeowner/resident fails to maintain the privately owned gravity line, the electric system, and fails to maintain a functional alarm.
