Local Elections
Per the City Code, a general election shall be held every four years on the General Election day in November to coincide with the Presidential Election and other Federal offices. The qualified voters of the City shall elect five persons as Councilmembers, and one person for Mayor, to serve for the term of four years or until their successor or successors are duly elected and qualified.
Local elections for the City of Hagerstown are handled by the Washington County Board of Elections.

* Those wishing to run in the 2020 election must file with the Washington County Board of Elections by no later than January 24, 2020.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR FILING FOR OFFICE OF THE MAYOR OR CITY COUNCIL
Below is a list of qualifications for those who wish to run for office:
Mayor
- 25 years of age
- City resident for minimum of one year immediately preceding general election
- Registered voter of the City of Hagerstown
City Council
- 21 years of age
- City resident for minimum of one year immediately preceding general election
- Registered voter of the City of Hagerstown
