Street Sweeping
“Street sweeping is an integral part of keeping our city free of trash and debris,” stated Eric Deike, Director of Public Works. “We want to thank everyone for cooperating with sweeping program and for doing their part in keeping the city clean.”
The City of Hagerstown has two street sweepers in operation on a daily basis. The street sweeping task for the city is divided into different sections and schedules. We have sections that are on a permanently posted schedule. For example, City Center streets are routinely swept on the same day, the same side and at the same time every week (e.g. every Monday on the north side of your street between 6:00AM and 8:00AM or 9:00AM to 11:00AM). If you have recently moved to town you should check if you see a sign like this posted on your street in order to avoid ticketing.
We are currently posting streets in the Northwest Quadrant. View schedule
Some streets are wide enough and not so heavily parked, eliminating the need for posting. These streets get swept without any "no parking" times.
At certain times of the year, in fall and after the winter season, when all the snow has melted away, we are especially busy trying to keep our streets clean. Should you want to request a street sweeper to come through your street please write us by email.
The two sweepers combined collet about 400+ tons of trash and debris a year. Sweeping removes pollutants such as grit and trash that would otherwise flow into the waterways, helping to protect water quality.
