As traffic congestion grows on major streets in the City, an increasing number of motorists look for shortcuts and bypass routes. Unfortunately, this practice leads to increased traffic and speeding on residential and local streets, which impacts both safety and quality of life for the residents of these neighborhoods. To address these concerns, the City has developed a Traffic Calming Policy that lays out a process for citizens to request the installation of traffic calming features in their neighborhoods. Requests will be evaluated in accordance with the procedures listed in the policy, which will lead to a determination of whether any features are warranted, and which specific type of feature may be effective in this particular situation.
