  • Trash, recycling, and yard waste materials must be set out between 4:00 PM and midnight on the day before they are scheduled to be collected. Please refer to the Collection Schedules & Zones page for more information.

  • Yes, heavyweight plastic bags may be used for trash, but not for recycling or yard waste.

  • There is no maximum but all bagged trash needs to fit into the City-issued trash totes. No bagged trash can be set on the ground next to the trash totes.

  • Prescription drugs should not be disposed of in your household trash or recycling. The Hagerstown Police Department, working with the Washington County Health Department, has installed a drop box at Police headquarters (50 N. Burhans Blvd.) where you can dispose of your unused or expired medications. The drop box is located in the lobby, and is open to the public Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

  • You can email recycle@hagerstownmd.org or call (301) 739-8577 Ext. 106 to request an extra trash or recycling bin. The City offers three sizes of trash and recycling totes:  35 gallon, 65 gallon, and 95 gallon.
