There is an unused alley right-of-way next to my property, and I would like to claim it as part of my land – what is the process for getting the City to convey this right-of-way to me?

If you would like to permanently add part of the right-of-way to your property, you can request that the City prepare a “quit claim” deed that gives up any interest/rights that the City has to the land. If you would just like to use part of the right-of-way for your own purposes without officially making a claim on the land, you can request a “license agreement” from the City. In either case, call the office of the City Engineer at (301) 739-8577 ext. 125 to discuss your request with staff.  You can also refer to the City's Quit Claim Policy for more information.
