Neighborhoods 1st

The Neighborhoods 1st program creates a venue for neighborhood based citizen groups to engage and collaborate with local government in community-building and placemaking. This network of neighborhood groups works in partnership with the City of Hagerstown to plan and implement neighborhood events and projects which contribute to the livability and sustainability of their unique communities.

Neighborhoods 1st

Why?

Meet your Neighbors. Groups create a place to build meaningful relationships and make new friends.

Ownership. The key to a great neighborhood is establishing an attitude of ownership. As neighbors work together, a bond of ownership and pride is created.

Be heard. Communicate with the City so staff and police know how to best serve your neighborhood.

Funding. The City realizes that kick-starting neighborhood projects takes start-up funding. Every year the City budgets $1,000 for each Neighborhoods 1st Group to be used for community-building and neighborhood improvement projects.
