The City of Hagerstown announces the selection of Capt. Paul J. Kifer as the next Chief of Police for the Hagerstown Police Department. Kifer will take over for Chief Victor V. Brito on June 9th, following Brito’s last day on the job.
Kifer is a 26 year veteran of the force, having served as Captain since 2013. Kifer was involved in the recruitment process of hiring a new chief following the departure of former Chief Mark Holtzman. Kifer was rated highly during that process, and the elected body used that information to forego a new national search and made the decision to offer him the position during executive session on May 22.
City Administrator Valerie Means looks forward to working with Kifer as the new Chief. “I have complete confidence in Captain Kifer to serve as our Chief of Police. He will lead the Department with confidence and integrity and has a proven track record for commitment to the community and the department. I look forward to the leadership role he will play in carrying forward the positive momentum of ongoing efforts and initiatives of the City and the Hagerstown Police Department.
The swearing in of Capt. Kifer as Chief of Police will occur before his start date.
