City of Hagerstown Seeks Input on Community's Future

The City of Hagerstown is in the process of updating the Comprehensive Plan, which will guide decision-making for our city's future over the next 20 years. The City is seeking community feedback on several areas of city life, including our infrastructure, economic development priorities, downtown revitalization, and more. Known as visionHagerstown 2035, the update will identify issues and opportunities for each topic area and determine policies and recommendations for addressing them.

The City is offering a series of five surveys, each of which should take 10 minutes or less to complete. Surveys will be posted on social media and can be found on the City's website at: www.hagerstownmd.org/vision. The topic areas include:

Economic Development: This survey addresses the economic well-being of Hagerstown citizens and businesses, including the recruitment of new businesses, workforce training programs, and the employment market.

Transportation and Water Resources - The City of Hagerstown provides a high level of service to our customers. Our local government maintains our infrastructure in response to our community’s needs and within our available resources. By assessing where we stand, your feedback will help us evaluate the future delivery of services.

Downtown - The City of Hagerstown takes pride in our historic downtown and the opportunities for growth and enhancement it holds. Let us know how you feel about culture, education, downtown businesses and more.

Housing and Neighborhoods - In Hagerstown, our neighborhoods feel like home. This survey seeks feedback on housing preferences and identifies opportunities to provide a higher quality of life.

Urban Design and Sustainability - The City of Hagerstown is committed to preserving our historic culture while implementing modern amenities in our community. Evaluate current City facilities and our renewable energy efforts by completing this survey.

In addition to collecting community feedback through surveys, various other input is incorporated into the visionHagerstown 2035 Comprehensive Plan update to capture the diversity and broad interests of our city. This includes feedback from City boards and commissions, Washington County Planning Commission and staff, and several community groups. Once community feedback has been compiled, the City anticipates having the draft Plan available for initial public review in mid- to late-Spring 2017.
