Regular city employees who work a minimum of 500 hours annually are required to participate in the Maryland State Retirement System, which is a defined benefit program. If you are an active or former member, or their beneficiary, you may access handbooks, benefits overview, pamphlets, calculation worksheets, benefit estimators and more on the MD State Retirement Agency Website.
If you are a retiree or their beneficiary, visit the retirees section for information such as changing your taxes, address or direct deposit.
Safety personnel (fire and police) have a separate retirement plan that provides a maximum benefit of 60% of the final average salary with 30 or more years of service.
The City offers employees the opportunity to participate in this federal tax-free, long-range savings program available exclusively to municipal employees. Participants are provided with a variety of investment choices, and may contribute up to a maximum amount that is indexed annually.
